Burgundy Diamond Mines is pleased to announce that it has surpassed 10 million carats recovered at its Misery Underground (MUG) operation in March, a significant achievement equivalent to two tonnes of rough diamonds.
“This milestone is a testament to the incredible efforts and dedication of everyone involved,” said Jeff Reinson, VP of Operations at Burgundy. “It is also a reflection of countless hours of hard work by many people over many years and underscores the criticality of initiatives like the diamond drill program and ongoing microdiamond sampling, which are essential to the continued success of MUG.”
The Misery pipe was initially mined as an open pit and produced more than 27 million carats, including special, highly sought-after fancy yellow stones. The mine was converted to an underground operation in 2019 and achieved commercial production in 2021. Misery is also famous for producing Canada’s largest fancy vivid yellow diamond to date, which was recovered from the underground operation in 2022 and purchased by Tiffany & Co.
“These results are a true reflection of the culture we’ve built at Burgundy – one rooted in collaboration, safety and shared dedication to excellence,” said Lorne Newbury, Senior Manager at MUG. “It’s not just about the hard work we put in; it’s about working together to achieve something extraordinary, and I could not be prouder of everyone involved!”
